"Does anyone in their right mind feel that Harry condones impurity? If you do, you are wrong." I"ll bet you dollars to donuts that Harry played a major role in your being cut off. Is that impurity? I heard somewhere, or read somewhere, that Harry couldn't discern whether Lynn was lying, or one of his purported victims was lying in regards to her alleged molestation. So he chose the alleged abuser to stand with. Is that purity? How about telling folks that Lynn being accountable to a court only applies to sins committed after his call or appointment. I know we are all sinners, but I'm not sure Harry isn't condoning a little impurity. I could be wrong though. It's happened once or twice.
I certainly understand your love for Harry despite the flaws he has demonstrated in understanding what basic justice means, what standing up for virtue means, and even what repentance means. I can wrap my brain around the idea that he is operating to his best understanding. Harry's view of things was quite similar to mine until I reached a crossroad that forced me to open my eyes and see. I can say that before that time I was operating to my best "understanding"; but that would not be totally honest. The spirit of truth within me whispered many times over the years of things that were not right or true or even virtuous. I chose to squash that feeling in me so that I could be in harmony with the "gospel" and the "brethren". If a sick twisted soul like me could see the truth, then why can't Harry? What does that say? I am sorry, I truly am, but sometimes you choose not to see. Sometimes you choose deliberately to be blind because the truth and following truth would require reevaluating all you've been and all that you are. Harry is an apostle of Lamoine. And in so doing he has deliberately jeopardized his ability to become anything other than his master. Obedience in and of itself is not a virtue. Obedience to correct principle is. To be blind is not necessarily a sin, but to disguise the blindness and say, "We see, follow us," is evil. These men, Harry included, are comfortable deceiving their flock that their decisions are the will of the Lord, or inspired of God. It is basically dishonest, and honesty is a cornerstone of purity.
