Blog # 2 - Come Let Us Reason Together vs Playing Ostrich

A very dear friend of ours recently said to my wife, “I’m glad my husband decided to fight against the IRS rather than fight against the Priesthood like your husband.”  I’ve thought about that statement many times since she sincerely uttered it.  We each see things from our own point of view.  One sees priest.hood and another sees priest.craft.  What is the difference?  Doesn’t the difference in conclusions, come from what we measure everything by?  Do we measure by God’s scriptural truths or do we measure by the created traditions of men mingled with emotion?  To be clear, my fight isn’t against the priest.hood but against false traditions wearing masks, posing as though they are priest.hood.  How shall we discern the difference and “judge righteous judgment”?

First, why would anyone feel compelled to fight against the IRS?  Most, I’m sure, have read about 1913 and how our Congress, our chief politically governing council, did the slight-of-hand trick and slipped us into a bondage worse than our ancestors in Egypt via the income tax “law” or the 16th amendment.  Do you assume that this “law” came into existence, being properly ratified?   Guess again!  Was this “law” established in accordance with many eternal principles and enlightened vision that our Founding Fathers based us upon?  No again!  How do we individually measure whether this income tax “law” is good or evil?  If we, after studying it out, determine that it is wrong, should we speak out, share our findings, and seek to have it removed as dangerous, and destructive to our freedoms, or should we simply settle in and blindly accept the bad choices of our leaders without so much as a whimper?  Everybody has an opinion, to be sure, but by what fixed principles do we measure the Federal Reserve and the 16th amendment whether they actually edify and fortify our freedoms or do they weaken, undermine, and destroy our nation under God?

Likewise, shouldn’t we also reflect, with our friend, asking why any true believer would oppose or fight against God’s Priest.hood here on the earth, or fight against the tasks God commands them to establish?  It is a very good question as well as being an excellent comparison she employed.  For most of us, if the message transfer from God to His Priest.hood, here on earth, was accurate and fully in accordance with His will, then there would be no legitimate reason to oppose their actions, would there?

But what if, like the setting up of the 16th amendment, the “Priesthood” wasn’t worthy to receive real revelation or being darkened in their minds from covering sin, possibly misunderstood God’s actual message, and consequently sent out a dangerously distorted “revelation” as though it was from Him, but in fact, turned out that it wasn’t really?

If we ever became convinced of such an alarming conclusion by measuring and testing their teachings with unchanging, fixed principles of Gospel Truth, what would be the responsibility of such a discerning but subordinate body of Priesthood in relation to their presiding leaders and their subsequent “manifestos”?

In the last 6000 years, have the Lord’s people ever completely gone into apostasy unless their leaders eventually did so too?  Is Isaiah speaking to us of such a deteriorating state of His people when he said, “O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err and destroy the way of thy path.” (Isa 3:12)  Don’t we claim to be His people?  Isn’t He testifying that this state of apostasy is to occur, among us, just before the second coming of our Lord?  Isn’t that now?

If such prophesied diversion from the true path was clearly shown to be the case, should the few scripturally versed humble followers of Christ simply surrender to and vote-in non-celestial truths with great swelling emotion?  Or rather would duty dictate that they must with all the energy of their souls begin to reason against these potentially fatal errors by crying repentance unto the people?

My response to my friend was to ask what her precise understanding was of the difference between Priestcraft and Priesthood.  I used the “Masonic” symbol of the compass as an illustration to explain my understanding of the critical difference between these two systems of administration.  The compass draws a circle and it represents God’s revealed will inside of the circle.  Words spoken, teachings proclaimed and even ordinances performed, or literally anything outside the God appointed proper bounds of the circle, in any direction, would constitute Priest.craft or the works of men.

Obviously the standard by which we judge, becomes our foundational premise. If our standard is inaccurate or improper, then how can we come to a good conclusion or make a righteous judgment?  How do we measure the difference between revealed scriptural truths and the consensus of men often communicating their best but imperfect decisions as though it were Gospel truth?  We know from history that these man-inspired decrees almost always become binding traditions and, in fact, often grow in the esteem of darkening minds to the point of even overruling the very will of God to the followers of the tradition setters!  This tendency was one of the main truths Jesus taught to the Pharisees.  “Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your traditions…. In vain they do worship Me, teaching for doctrine the commandments of men.”    Matt. 15: 6 &9

My purpose for creating this blog is simply to reason with you and to present evidence proving that we are rapidly falling headlong into dangerous diversions from the Gospel path generally, and in great measure – more particularly in the last few months! [the Fall of 2014].   I am only responsible to declare the truth, as well as I understand it, and your duty is to understand what I am saying, measure it by fixed scriptural truths and then to take your conclusions to God for personal confirming revelation for or against my points.  I do not have the calling to set this Work in order, only God and our leaders can do that.  But I do have the responsibility to cry repentance and to teach the truths of the Gospel.  To be critical means being capable of judging with accuracy between the correct and the incorrect, based upon experience, knowledge, habit and hopefully a gift from God in the power of His Holy Spirit.  It is a fine line between being critical and simply crying repentance because it is the right thing to do. This is true for both you and me, isn’t it?  I trust that by reasoning together, with scriptural truths coupled with help from God, we can come to the blessed state of “seeing eye to eye.”

“Come let us reason together” is a prerequisite for all celestial candidates, and condemning before sincere investigation is one sign that these “fearful” ones obviously do not have the capacity or the courage to obtain the celestial kingdom anyway.

Surely those who can be swayed to fear searching after truth will not have courage enough to obey its mandates.”  M.H.P. 4:II [preface].

I plan to offer facts, probing questions, documents and resources to aid you in personally evaluating whether my views are correct or incorrect.  In upcoming blogs, I will be using only first names to help keep our audience limited to the only ones who need to know the inside applications of our discussions. I want you to know that I truly feel no hate, animosity or ill feelings against any of my brothers or sisters that I will be mentioning, but only against their bad behavior and foul deeds if such proves to be the case.  I will only introduce them herein to make correct principles more understandable and to help each of us to learn from their manifested misdeeds.  However, please keep fully in mind that everything each of us says and does, is and will be thoroughly observed, rightly judged, and shouted from the housetops for all to see by our Father in Heaven with attached eternal consequences.  Of this I am certain!

Sincerely,

Bro. Steve

Comments, Blog 2. An Appeal to Reason, or Come Let Us Reason Together vs. Playing Ostrich learnjustice.posthaven.com 1. Para. 1. There is a children’s classic, beloved by many of generations past by Robert Lewis Stephenson, entitled “Treasure Island.” Walt Disney made it into a movie that many of us remember fondly. 2. In one of the plot twists, Cpt. Silver and the survivors of his old pirate crew have allowed Squire Trelawney and the loyal sailors to depart from the stockade rather than suffer bombardment from the Hispaniola. After making an unannounced attack on the ship to let it drift uselessly aground, Jim Hawkins, exhausted and wounded, totters into what he thinks is the house of his friends only to find it has become a den of murderous thieves. Using one flag to deceive true identity and intent was a standard ruse of pirates and privateers in the age of sail. 3. A false flag is for us, bottom to top, unwittingly giving to men what rightfully belongs only to God. What constitutes the Church of Jesus Christ? We see His emblems on Temple Square. Is the name we bear so beyond contemplation that we should not look to ourselves to examine the substance of our conduct? Does the title, Church of Jesus Christ, represent what it stands for in us, or has it been used by anyone as a false flag in place of what it should mean to conceal that which is unchristian? What is the mote and what is the beam as seen by God between the 19th century and the 20th century LDS Churches? How can we claim the virtue of adherence to higher principle when we would turn a blind eye to the cries of our dear ones and not defend fundamental principles of human dignity and worth? 4. Para. 4. The stages of communication from God are, 1) Inspiration, the still-small voice that must be sought through inquiry and silencing the voice of self, 2) Revelation in which the Holy Spirit animates the recipient with energy and interrupts other thoughts and, 3) Visitation, as described by Joseph Smith. Other avenues of communication are dreams and arrangement of events, as well as appearances by angels impersonating mortals to perform acts of intervention. The experience of a revelation is unmistakable. 5. Para. 6. Jewish rabbinical scholars examining their accepted sacred texts have determined that to be recognized as authored by God, a prophecy must have five applications. A prominent example for Christians is contained in the Book of Revelation in what the risen Christ says to the seven churches in Asia Minor in the first century. For most of history from then till now, Christian scholars have taken those judgments as historically fixed in that time. Only in the twentieth century has it begun to dawn on them that the prophecy is an accurate depiction of seven successive church ages from the Ascension to the Second Coming. 6. Para. 6. Likewise, there have been many Christian divines who have sought parallel application to the words of Isaiah for our time and Christians in general. It has been in common circulation in this Work that the prophecies of Isaiah apply to the restored Israel in our time. Events reoccur because human nature has not changed and the Adversary’s game plans take a similar form through the ages and cultures of man. Bro. Steve firmly believes this. Heavenly Father sees the end from the beginning. 7. Para. 6. I take notice from Bro. Steve’s solemn warning in Para. 6. Apostasy is never to be considered as an artifact of history or something that only takes place over there on Temple Square. “. . . and pray always that ye may be accounted to be worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass and stand before the Son of Man. . .” (Luke 21:36) Making that prayer is not a talisman (potent, magical object), but a call to vigilance and action. Are we justified because men would skirt that issue and have us believe they and we, the Work, are somehow immune from the consequences of our actions? 8. Para. 7. In order to be effective, nay, valid, the process of repentance must be directed to the source of the fault. “Taking responsibility” without consequence is a parlor trick of our professional politicians. 9. Para. 8. Handlers of currency, merchants and bank tellers, are warned by the Secret Service to be vigilant in spotting counterfeit bills. As counterfeiters, including foreign governments, become more skillful, the true bills have become more sophisticated with layers of security features. This is a response that shows our government has enhanced its vigilance. We must do likewise with the currency of scripture and how it is being applied. 10. Para. 8. We, as well, given the power of the Adversary to play a long-game, over many human generations, of insidious subversion and conversion, need to examine the representations (currency) of truth we handle and discern the true interpretations from the counterfeit interpretations, through sensitivity to our conscience and applying directed prayer. 11. Para. 8. Priesthood vs. priestcraft. Words of themselves are nothing. Words are icons that stand for other things. Words represent concepts. “The Priesthood” is only words. Its significance is derived from the integrity and virtue of those who proclaim it. Its value is renewed or debased according to the continuing fidelity of its members in keeping to the standards it represents. Those words can represent either a sacred garment, or serve as a cloak covering ragged and filthy misdeeds. 12. Para. 8. “The Brethren” is another word that can be used interchangeably. These words are not to be taken as stand-ins for Jesus Christ or Heavenly Father. In the ordinary course of things, we are to be directed by our file-leaders, but we have the additional responsibility as members of the Order of Heaven to be sure that our direction is of God and our directors are clean before Him and are being directed by Him. Undiscerning following, blind following, is no saving virtue according to Brigham Young. “Priesthood is as priesthood does.” 12. Para. 9. This is how the Catholic Church got its governing principles and got to be what it is, today. The Catholic Church sets great store by what it has embraced as tradition. They openly declare for it being co-equal to scripture. Their premise is that the early church fathers (the successors of the apostles) were inspired men, prophets in all but name and declaration. Thus, over time, they have incorporated veneration of statues, assigned sacred status to objects (relics) as the focus of attentive devotion, and made Mary a sort of co-redeemer (co-redemptrix) along with Jesus, because, according to them she has a firm grip on His heart strings. (The concept fits in great with their useful notion of God being magisterial, Jesus being austere and implacable and now unapproachable, and Mary taking on the role of intercessor, with the church the indispensable intermediary between perpetually sinful man and the heavenly family.) Jesus’ take on elevating tradition to governing status can be found in Rev. 2:20 with his admonition to the church of Thyatira, the fourth church age after the fall of Rome. 2-2 The doctrine of papal infallibility (when pronouncing ex-cathedra on matters of faith and morals) appeared in 1870 from a sacred consistory called by Pope Pius IX in which, after a divided vote of the cardinals present, it was incorporated as sacred dogma (teaching), the denial of which condemns the offender to hell. Using this man-made authority, he elsewhere pronounced against the evil of representative government. In similar fashion, the dogma of the Assumption of Mary being bodily carried into heaven, skirting decomposition, was declared as realized truth by Pope Pius XII in 1950. The Catholic doctrine about such pronouncements is that the principles they define have always been true, but they are only just being added to obligatory belief by an individual pope. Their pope also has as part of his authority the right to make, change, and disannul laws and teachings of the church. This well serves a church of men. In a later blog, Steve will dissect the scripture from which they take authorization for all that they do. “Thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” (Mt. 16:18) 13. Para. 9. As a religious movement matures, the need for selecting and defining useful doctrine in control of the people emerges. This is why the Christian Emperor, Constantinius called the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD. The decrees and pronouncements generated all too often serve the purpose of limiting, controlling, or channeling the thought and behavior of others and this consequently benefits the controllers. The term, “laity” for the common people (laites), as to be separate from the clergy, emerged at this time. In this, you can have the definition of the mysterious word, nicolaitanes, from the book of Revelation. It is a compounding of the Greek, nikos and the Latin, laites, which means, “the conquerors of the people.” This definition marks the transition from the Church of Jesus Christ to the Church of Rome. There are parallels in our time with the transformation of the LDS church to “adapt to change under the direction of . . .,” etc. and their invocation of authority simply ignoring revealed scripture and conscience. See D&C 121 for the Savior’s concept of priesthood authority and how it is to be exercised. 14. Para. 9. Like the expanding odor plume from which you know there is a dead skunk somewhere, the supersession of Jesus’s way by man’s way casts its odor. And just like human nature’s olfactory perception becomes desensitized – odor blind, so does the sensitivity of conscience when the substitution is subtle, apparently reasonable, and repeated over and over again. “You don’t smell your own.” The longer we accept error unthinkingly, the more truthful it will appear. 15. Para. 9. In anthropology, customs held among men are called folkways and these are enforced by members of the culture upon their own, so as to be unquestionable. Jesus is referring to an egregious example. There are over an incredible six-hundred thirteen laws imposed by the rabbis in their traditions on observant Jews, which they feel they have derived from scripture and further Adonai’s intent. 16. Para. 10. Being critical as we understand it is destructive. It offers no pathway to correction or improvement. It devalues the object of its attention. Bro. Steve is presenting the broad, historically- based definition of criticism as practiced by the Greek philosophers, from which we derive the term. They questioned, especially Socrates, in order to expand man’s understanding and gain a mastery of ideas that could be obtained and exercised by all men to the degree of their capability. At one point, Jesus expresses his desire to bring His gospel to the Greeks. Paul did so with much better results than his colleagues had in Jerusalem, having had a direct vision from the Savior. 2-3 17. Para. 10. Experience shows that a cry for repentance without a focus and without an understanding of the problem usually produces indifferent and transitory results. 18. Para. 11. Also, I take heed of the warning in the book of Revelation, the scripture left to us for our time, “But the fearful . . . and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” (Rev. 21:8) Being immersed in fear is accepting the Devil’s power to govern. 19. Para. 12. We understand that in heaven with our Savior we shall see as we are seen and know as we are known. “For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face-to-face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.”(1 Cor. 13:12) 20. Para. 12. In terms of the value of scripture in framing our judgment of cases, take the words of Christ: “And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. He that rejecteth me and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word [contained in scripture] that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.” (John 12:47-48) 21. When people feel they are in a state of war they will accept and tolerate a great reordering of values, even discounting the value of human life in pursuit of survival. Compare the reordering of values of the German people in the Hitlerzeit (Hitler-time) to what the members of the Work have experienced in the aftermath of the Short Creek raid. Look into your own heart as you hear the anguished testimonies of the girls-become-women in forthcoming blogs. Following Bro. Steve’s search for justice, we must look beyond words, such as “the Brethren” or “the Priesthood” to see how these words are employed, and to what end. 22. A fundamental principle of Christianity is that we must look through and beyond the reality that confronts our senses and apply the truths of scripture. This must be a personal quest. “Due to the nature of conspiring men” alluded to in the “Word of Wisdom” (D&C Sec 89:4), we cannot leave our duty to acquire truth and bring about justice -to others who act independent of our informed consent. 23. Are we looking at God’s righteousness and that of our standard bearers as one? Is that in fact so among us today? In light of what has been previewed here and is to be presented further, should we? Bro. Steve wants us to take a closer look. So I shall. A note to the discerning: “In the beginning was the word, and the Word was with God, and the word was God.” (John 1:1)The word referred to is Jesus Christ, the Father’s executor; no other word or title held of men is equivalent, or should be held so or presumed to be so. “Come now, and let us reason, together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. If ye will be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land.” (Is. 1:18, 19). Remembering that God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow, as we have been taught as part of our stand for Celestial Plural Marriage, take this statement as God’s unchanging policy. Therefore, it’s up to us to get our prayer muscles working so that we know for ourselves what has happened to this Work, especially since Rulon died. 2-4 I’m going to render for you a further quote from Isaiah. See learnjustice.posthaven.com blog# 46, Appendix AA-1, p.2 especially, for what has provoked me to continue the passages, for on that page of Bro. Steve’s reconstruction of his attempt to restore to an accounting the sundering of his family is laid out the indictment of the leadership of this Work. Out of their own mouths, have they not placed themselves under judgment of the Lord? 20. But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it. 21. How is the faithful city become an harlot! It was full of judgment; righteousness lodged in it; but now murderers. (There is such a thing before God as murdering a soul, cutting it off from seeking the Lord.) 22. Thy silver is become dross, thy wine mixed with water: (man-centered vs. God-centered truths) 23. Thy princes are rebellious and companions of thieves: every one loveth gifts, and followeth after rewards: they judge not the fatherless, neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them. 25. And I will turn my hand upon thee, and according to pureness purge away thy dross, and take away all thy tin: (Tin was used in the counterfeiting of silver.) 26. And I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counsellers as at the beginning: afterward thou shalt be called, The city of righteousness, the faithful city. 28. And the destruction of the transgressors and of the sinners shall be together, and they that forsake the Lord shall be consumed. (Is. 1:20-28)
Blinded by the Dark It all comes back to a crossroads of faith. Shall we have a relationship with God, or shall we content ourselves to remain at a distance. Shall we respect the majesty of God as our leaders would have it, so they can bask in the reflected glory of a God of our imagination, or shall we respect the mission of the real God by engaging with Him through praying, aligning, listening, obeying and daring to believe that a voice, at first no louder than our own mental interpreter, is His. In other words, whom do we serve, men who represent themselves as God’s true representatives, with a curtain between all of us and the oracles of God, or do we serve God by taking him at His word and acting upon the privilege that goes with baptism by His true representatives and start to talk with God and uphold His ways as our ways in all ways, including our personal lives, those we influence, and how we will observe our religious duties. Nobody who loves and understands the Lord is going to “fight the priesthood” for possession of the things or people of this Work. The issue here is akin to what Jesus said to the tempters in the Jerusalem crowd who wanted to know whether one should pay tax to Caesar or no. Jesus told them to render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s and unto God the things that are God’s. The issue is to recognize there is actually a choice to be made and to make it having a sure conviction that what you do is right and in the Lord. The “brethren” will retain their kingdom and God will retain those who are His. “My sheep hear my voice and I know them.” So let’s start hearing his voice for ourselves and stop listening to confusion. In this blog, Bro. Steve posits the question as to whether there has been a break between those who preside in this Work and the Lord, who is the author if this Work resulting in a darkening of their understanding of and connection to the way of the Lord relative to just what constitutes a valid ordination prompted and endorsed by him in the form of the Holy Spirit. Signs in the written record alone and the testimonies of individuals point to a darkening of minds and absence of spiritual manifestations being the case. One of the purposes of this blog series is to explore what God’s standard is with regard to valid ordination and retention of the ability of a priesthood ordainee to act in His name and under His approved authority. What are the signs of the Lord’s presence in our acts? What signifies an absence at a point in the administration of sacred affairs when it should normally be there? Those who are most senior in age among us should have experienced the Lord’s spirit on occasions and thus should most easily be able to remember what difference there has been between what spiritual manifestations we have now, and what we had in Rulon’s ministry. For a people of God endowed with favor and powers from on high, any diminution or absence should rightfully be cause for alarm, since maintaining these things are part of our blessing, need, and responsibility as trustees on-call in behalf of the whole world, including our progeny. What understandings do we have that have come from God and what are the substitutions and fill-ins of men must be determined if we are to remain true to our calling and duty and hope of an eternal reward. In question is legitimate succession, validity of some or all ordinances, operation of a teaching and ministering spirit able to be shared, and worthiness of us as a people to be included in the temporal and spiritual portion of the Lord’s plan of salvation intended for a people who are in full willingness to be of him. Not all these questions can be answered now, but we will better know when we start to repent. Our situation is of a similar gravity to that faced by the reformers of the Catholic Church in the 16th century, who were obliged by the nature of their opposition to look at the foundations of the Christian faith and man’s intended relationship with God. With them, it was the central governing authority that had abandoned the Christianity of the apostles and substituted absolutism vested in men whose God was power and force sustained by priestcraft and a fallen version of statesmanship. There are warnings and markers all over the place in our sacred writings describing the effects of human nature and how its expresses itself in departure from God, leading to rebellion, and denial of His sovereign power. The pattern of men usurping God’s authority repeats itself in scriptural history. The challenge to be wise as serpents, but harmless as doves was never truer than now. In the journey to find truth and establish it in our hearts as the basis by which we discern and choose, we must try the spirits of the Lord and his servants, of men and their servants, and of devils who fill men’s hearts with cunning counterfeits and callous rage – and their servants. Learning what is true in the state of this our Work must be gained line-upon line, precept upon precept in a foundation within each one of you so that the new rededication to faith you build will be stronger than the voice of error or the Adversary. The Lord is wise and loving not to hand out certain truths to people who are not prepared to receive them. This is one of the laws upon missionaries who are sent to go forth and teach and proclaim the kingdom of God among men: withhold from the unprepared and unwilling. One of the questions for you to ask from your heart is that by our actions towards each other and by what we sustain and by what we condone, do we in fact represent God’s kingdom or some other’s kingdom? Brother Steve is just one voice, you have another. God decides. If you don’t know the will of the Lord in these matters yourself, you will be surprised. How can one teach love among the loveless? It’s like talking about snow to the vast majority of Pacific Islanders. The priesthood entrusted to us is not shared with men. We can, when authorized confer it. We can employ it in behalf of others through our actions, but being true to our callings is an individual matter. We maintain the quality our priesthood and the ability of our spirits to receive its powers by renewing our informed connection with the Lord. I’m afraid we have a long way to go in restoring what was had in the church of Joseph Smith, but we have their scriptures and a record of their struggle and the living example of righteous prophets among us. Who the last one was is another matter for your discerning consideration. In addition, we have the same gift in the permission and invitation to make ourselves one with the Lord through prayer and listening. We just have to take those steps, ourselves, and persevere to the end. If we don’t want to end up in a state of being blinded by the dark by following false and falsified teachings and false guides, we must live according to the guidance and commandments given in scripture and the still small voice, until better is revealed in the Lord’s due time. Brigham proclaimed that salvation is an individual matter. JD 1:312 “Watch ye therefore, and pray always that ye be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.” Luke 21:36
